Professional Development

NYSPEP is a unique, cross agency organization that focuses on improving parenting education services throughout New York. Programs and providers in our network are often working with families receiving services from several systems including education, mental health, family support, substance abuse, and child welfare systems. NYSPEP provides high quality trainings that are attended by many of the providers. In addition, NYSPEP’s Parenting Educator Credential provides a clear and well defined competency based framework to support the development of the parenting education work force.

Credentialing

Parenting Education is now recognized as a specialty requiring unique skills and knowledge. Many related professions include a component of parenting education in support of parents and families with children. This peer-driven, statewide Credential recognizes and validates achievement, supports advance learning goals, and sets a path for advancement.

Strong Roots Last A Lifetime

NYSPEP Strong Roots Last a Lifetime (Strong Roots) Training Institutes are developed by experienced professionals in the field, in response to identified needs. Strong Roots takes place annually and is repeated in multiple locations across New York State. Strong Rootsincludes a plenary and choice of workshop. All sessions include a process activity.

NYSPEP Member Meetings are open to the public. A keynote and choice of workshop are included. Poster sessions provide networking opportunities.
